IT Solutions For Architecture Firms

Architecture is an art form, but it’s also an information-intensive field that requires reliable file storage, steadfast backups, and seamless collaboration. You depend on technology – such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) – to generate and share designs. If that technology fails, you could lose hours of work, money or clients.

Helpful IT Advice For Architecture Firms

Data Backups

A data backup and disaster recovery system is your last line of defence against threats to data: if your data is no longer accessible, you can simply restore the backup copy and keep the business running as normal.
An effective and secure backup system follows the 3-2-1 rule:

Keep 3 copies of data

on at least 2 different media

with at least 1 copy off-site.

Most importantly, make sure you test your backups – the worst time to find out that your backups are failing is when you try to recover from a disaster!

Cybersecurity Tips

Back up your data

Keep devices and apps up-to-date

Beware of suspicious websites, emails and phone calls – always think twice before divulging passwords or personal information

Choose strong, unique passwords – consider using a secure password manager

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)

Never leave devices unattended

Limit the number of devices that store or process sensitive data

Ensure anti-virus/anti-malware is enabled and updated regularly

Remember: Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility

CAD Workstations

Don’t waste otherwise billable design time working on old, slow workstations!

Reasonable minimum requirements as of Q1 2023 for a CAD workstation that should last 3 years or more:

Processor: 8 cores, 3.2GHz base clock (e.g. Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 series)

Memory: 32GB, fastest available

Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (with DRAM)

Graphics: DirectX 12 compliant GPU with 8GB video RAM (e.g. NVIDIA T1000 8GB)

Of course, minimum specs will vary based on your exact use case. We custom-build workstations that match architecture needs.
